ELDER JAMES “J.R.” EDWARDS

Husband. Father. Ordained Elder. International Speaker. Author. Entrepreneur. Musician. Community Leader. Visionary.

Elder James “J.R.” Edwards is a native of Danville, Virginia, born December 10, 1981, to Monica R. Tarpley and James A. Edwards, Sr. From humble beginnings to international influence, J.R.’s life has become a testament of faith, resilience, leadership, and purpose-driven impact.

J.R. is married to the former Ms. Keyona Sheron Grey, whom he united with in Holy Matrimony on August 8, 2015. Together they have built a blended family rooted in faith, love, leadership, and legacy. He is the proud father of Kyunnika, Elisha, Lathan, and Khristina, and proud bonus-father of Ethan.

EDUCATION & DISCIPLESHIP

J.R. graduated from George Washington High School before furthering his studies at Danville Community College, Virginia University of Lynchburg Seminary College, and the University of Phoenix.

More importantly, he received what he calls his “B.A. Degree” — Born Again — after confessing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, repenting, being baptized in Jesus’ Name, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost.

MUSIC & MINISTRY

Since June 1992, J.R. has ministered through music on the Hammond Organ and piano. His gift has afforded him opportunities to accompany and minister alongside nationally and internationally recognized leaders and artists including Apostle Lawrence G. Campbell, Sr., Bishop George G. Bloomer, Dr. Jamal Bryant, Bishop Hezekiah Walker, Bishop Paul Morton, Tye Tribbett, Jekalyn Carr, Lucinda Moore, Walt Whitman & The Soul Children of Chicago, and many others.

As a young musician, J.R. had two major goals:
• To become an organist for Bible Way Cathedral
• To serve under his mentor Dr. Osco Eugene Gardin, Jr.

By the grace of God, he accomplished both.

However, J.R. recognized that his assignment extended far beyond music. He discovered a deeper calling: “Bridging the Gap” holistically between God and humanity through preaching, teaching, outreach, financial empowerment, mentorship, and transformational speaking.

GLOBAL IMPACT & INTERNATIONAL MINISTRY

Since becoming an International Minister of Music in 2018 alongside Bishop George G. Bloomer, Elder J.R. Edwards has traveled extensively throughout 5 continents and over 31 international destinations, ministering, teaching, leading worship, empowering communities, and building relationships across cultures.

His travels include locations throughout:
• Africa
• Europe
• Asia
• North America
• South America/Caribbean

International ministry and outreach destinations include:
• Lomé

• San Juan
• Bridgetown
• Saint Lucia
• Antigua and Barbuda

…and many more.

Through these experiences, J.R. has developed a unique ability to connect with diverse audiences from every walk of life. His message is not one-dimensional. He speaks holistically on faith, leadership, economic empowerment, purpose, entrepreneurship, resilience, community development, relationships, identity, and practical life transformation.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP & BUSINESS LEADERSHIP

J.R.’s entrepreneurial journey officially began on January 18, 2012, with the formation of “The Music Factory,” where he served as a contracted musician and music educator.

In 2016, J.R. and Keyona launched “Bridge The Gap Luxurious Chauffeur,” which later evolved into the luxury transportation brand now known as First Class Luxuries, LLC — a Better Business Bureau Accredited luxury chauffeur company built on professionalism, excellence, and elite client experiences.

AUTHOR & THOUGHT LEADER

On April 13, 2021, J.R. released his first book:
“Let Go Of The Cookies”

In April 2025, he released his second book:
“My Process To Millionaire Status — Turn the Current You See Into Currency”

This book outlines practical principles of economic empowerment, financial literacy, mindset transformation, and real-world experiences designed to help individuals transition from survival to stability and from limitation to legacy.

COMMUNITY IMPACT & OUTREACH

J.R.’s heart for people extends far beyond the pulpit.

In 2014, he founded “Bridge the Gap Outreach Ministries,” an organization dedicated to serving communities through outreach, mentorship, evangelism, feeding programs, youth development, clothing drives, and empowerment initiatives.

Through grassroots outreach efforts, J.R. and his team have served hundreds of families throughout communities in Virginia and North Carolina through:
• Food distributions
• Youth mentorship
• Community worship services
• Evangelism
• Educational support
• Clothing giveaways
• Leadership development

CIVIC LEADERSHIP & PUBLIC SERVICE

J.R. has also served his city through multiple leadership and advisory appointments including:
• Commissioner for the Danville Redevelopment & Housing Authority
• Officer and Board Director for Danville Housing Company, Inc.
• Member of the Social Services Advisory Board

He has additionally been honored with community service recognition and invited to serve as keynote speaker for numerous churches, banquets, leadership conferences, youth events, financial empowerment sessions, and community initiatives.

ORDINATION & PRESENT DAY MINISTRY

In July 2023, J.R. was ordained as an Elder at Bible Way Cathedral under the leadership of Apostle Lawrence G. Campbell, Sr. and Pastor Dr. Philip W. Campbell.

Today, Elder James “J.R.” Edwards travels nationally and internationally ministering, teaching, mentoring, speaking, and empowering individuals through practical wisdom, spiritual insight, leadership training, entrepreneurship, and transformational communication.

Whether in churches, conferences, classrooms, communities, businesses, or international platforms, his mission remains the same:

“Bridging the Gap” between inspiration and implementation, faith and function, vision and reality.

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

When asked what one thing he would encourage people to do, J.R. responded:

“Don’t allow the pains from your losses to punish the gift of your present and paralyze the potential of your future. Keep pushing and keep pressing.”

“The Best Is Yet To Come!”
